I had a science exam a day or two ago, and this was one of the questions:
Identify and name the cell organelle:
M- It allows transportation of materials in and out of plant cell.
Isn't the correct answer supposed to be cell membrane? Even though they mentioned in a plant cell.. Because the cell wall is completely permeable.. so it lets anything pass through.. but the cell membrane decides and allows materials to enter and exit the cell..
The teacher said the correct answer is cell wall though.. I would like to know your thoughts!

Answers

Answer 1

The correct answer is the cell membrane because it is the second last semi-permeable layer of the cell.

What is the function of cell membrane?

The cell membrane is a semi-permeable barrier that is responsible for allowing molecules across the cell when it is needed by the cell.

So we can conclude that The correct answer is the cell membrane because it is the second last semi-permeable layer of the cell.

Answer 2

The cell membrane allows the transportation of materials in and out of plant cells, although the cell wall is also key for these processes.

What is the cell wall?

The cell wall is a rigid structure located outside the plant cell that protect it against friction and osmotic stress.

The cell wall is also required to transport substances in and out of the plant cell by pores present in this structure.

Moreover, the cell membrane is a physical barrier that allows the interchange of nutrients and waste materials between the cell and its surrounding environment.

In conclusion, the cell membrane allows the transportation of materials in and out of plant cells, although the cell wall is also key for these processes.

Radiocarbon dating

Explanation:

Radiocarbon dating is a technique for determining the age of carbon-based materials derived from live beings. By measuring the quantity of carbon-14 in a sample and comparing it to an internationally accepted reference standard, an age may be determined. Radiocarbon dating is based on the basic principle that all living organisms absorb carbon from the atmosphere and food sources around them, including a small quantity of naturally radioactive carbon-14. When a plant or animal dies, it stops absorbing carbon, but the radioactive carbon it has stored decays.

What is the capacitance per square centimeter of such a cell wall?.

Answers

Cell membranes (the walled enclosure around a cell) are typically about d = 7.1 nm thick. They are partially permeable to allow charged material to pass in and out, as needed. Equal but opposite charge densities build up on the inside and outside faces of such a membrane, and these charges prevent additional charges from passing through the cell wall. We can model a cell membrane as a parallel-plate capacitor, with the membrane itself containing proteins embedded in an organic material to give the membrane a dielectric constant of about 12.
