Farmers have been growing genetically engineered (GE) sugar beets since 2008. The beets, developed via biotechnology, are genetically boosted to withstand sprayings of a common herbicide that is otherwise fatal to both crop and weeds. Some organic farmers fear that these plants could be harmful. Pollen from the GE beets could contaminate organic sugar beets, irrevocably altering their genetic content. Environmentalists are concerned that herbicide-resistant weeds could develop. A 2010 request for an injunction against growing the GE beets, however, was rejected by a federal judge. The judge ruled that issuing an order so late in the beets' growing season would result in substantial economic damage.

I.provide free care for people so anyone of any financial background could get a check up

2. Remind the public that anyone could get a mental illness even the ones you don’t expect.(example so people get treated more.)

3. Make a less stigma about mental health like it is a disease and that’s it’s okay to have one.

4. Provide extra support for example therapy and medications like anti depressants for example and possibly behavioral therapy.

5. Make people aware that people with mental illness don’t act crazy for example schizophrenia.

Explanation:

Main Idea: Pro-choice is a good choice

Outline:

1- Introductory (with a catch, use loaded language), and compelling visionary about either an unfortunate case or how many there are.

i.e. This woman was abused and left behind a dumpster. The sad thing is, she's not the only one.

2- Statistics about abortion, such as...

In countries where abortion is illegal, the unintended pregnancy rate has gone up 24% from 1994 to 2019

The abortion rate is the same in countries that allow abortion with a permit and those that don't allow it at all. Unintended pregnancy rates are highest in countries where abortion is illegal and lowest in countries where abortion is legal.

   3- Counterargument/rebuttal

But what about murking? Don't you feel bad about murking someone who could have lived to be great? Fate isn't a thing, and personality comes from being raised, from being developed enough to learn things. If they are doomed to be raised in poverty or being abused, they should not be forced into that, they don't have a choice, but we do.

Mention how it's not a "someone", it's a "thing". They don't have a heartbeat or any neural activity whatsoever at the stage where it's legal to get an abortion.

Of course, mention how there is a point where it should be illegal because the symptoms of pregnancy have been developed and you cant just murk it 3 days before it pops out.

4- mention people who are pro-choice (and maybe some pro-life) point out how almost no scientists and no doctors are pro-life.

5- End with a sort of reprise of the first paragraph and end with something inspirational.

PSA: In America, The Roe v. Wade Law is being debated about being kept, making it illegal to abort past 6 weeks, which is past the point where most women even know they are pregnant. The removal of this law will un-alive women. A ban on abortion does not stop abortion, it stops safe ones. Women will go to a back alley to do this, and they will be past tense. Please inform your representatives and government that this law needs to stay!

100 POINTS HELP PLEASE Write an argumentative essay in which you state and defend a claim about whether it is ethical to target uninformed consumers.

Answers

Answer:

Explanation:

It is unethical for companies to target uninformed consumers. People inherently trust what they hear and see from mass media.  So when a company makes claims in a commercial, people tend to believe what it says. It would be better if consumers are more critical of what they are told and collect more info on a product they want to buy. Product info should be available and accessible to consumers but some companies try to hide. That makes it unethical.

Answer:

Explanation:

it is right to target uninformed consumers. in a free market, consumers have access to all product info. so it is up to individual consumer to decide whether to become informed. producers do not make that decision for consumers even if they target those consumers. so there is nothing unethical. its the Darwinian principle applies to market economy.

Read this excerpt about the Vietnam War from "Ambush" by Tim O'Brien:

When she was nine, my daughter Kathleen asked if I had ever killed anyone. She knew about the war; she knew I'd been a soldier. "You keep writing war stories," she said, "so I guess you must've killed somebody." It was a difficult moment, but I did what seemed right, which was to say, "Of course not," and then to take her onto my lap and hold her for a while. Someday, I hope, she'll ask again. But here I want to pretend she's a grown-up. I want to tell her exactly what happened, or what I remember happening, and then I want to say to her that as a little girl she was absolutely right. This is why I keep writing war stories:

He was a short, slender young man of about twenty. I was afraid of him-afraid of something-and as he passed me on the trail I threw a grenade that exploded at his feet and killed him. . . .

Even now I haven't finished sorting it out. Sometimes I forgive myself, other times I don't. In the ordinary hours of life I try not to dwell on it, but now and then, when I'm reading a newspaper or just sitting alone in a room, I'll look up and see the young man coming out of the morning fog. I'll watch him walk toward me, his shoulders slightly stooped, his head cocked to the side, and he'll pass within a few yards of me and suddenly smile at some secret thought and then continue up the trail to where it bends back into the fog.

How does the author's specific word choice and stylistic devices affect the excerpt's tone? Be sure to use specific details from the text to support your answer.

Answers

Answer and Explanation:

First, we can say the tone of the excerpt is sad and regretful.

The author is careful in his word choice, especially when it comes to describing the man he killed. He does not describe him as an enemy, as dangerous. He does not try to convince himself or the reader that his actions were justifiable. The fact that he concisely explains how the killing happened, with direct sentences, also show he is being honest and straightforward. He does not try to paint a different picture of what happened. It is worth noting that he does not worry much about the man's appearance. All he says is that he was short, slender, and about twenty. We do not know if the man looked threatening. All we know is that the author was afraid, and that that was enough to do what he did.

As for the parts about his daughter and his own feelings, the author is also direct, concise. However, when he describes the man in his imagination, he gives more details, painting a more vivid picture than he did when he described the killing. Now we know how the man walks, what his posture and attitude are like. It seems that the author wishes to convey how his thoughts linger, how his regrets come back again and again.

This assignment will springboard off of the Photo Memoir essay you wrote in Unit 2. Revisit your photo memoir essay and research a historical event that occurred during that time period. In lieu of research, you may use primary sources such as family letters or documents that could be used to provide background for your essay. Rework the photo memoir essay to incorporate the historically significant information into a new essay that argues a point based on the graphic and textual sources you gathered. Cite the sources both implicitly and explicitly within your essay.

Here is the memoir I wrote
“It is what it is”. Though it’s a cliche phrase, this is the photograph that I’ve selected to discuss. It may sound trite, this quote possesses a deeper meaning. When life seems to be out of control, it causes me to feel overwhelmed. It’s an instinct that I immediately want to take matters into my own hands, but in some situations, this is not feasible. This quote represents a deeper meaning that I cannot control things that are beyond me. Furthermore, the topic of discussion will revolve around It Is What It Is.
It’s hard to deny that when situations in our life don't go our way or even how we had planned we don't get upset. In my case, this situation can ruin my day. For example, before a ski race I used to have an expectation for myself, and I would give my best performance on the hill. Sometimes I would come up short, and this is what used to upset me. Although at the time I didn't realize that I did everything in my control to win, so at the end of the day I was racing myself. How does this tie back to It Is What It Is? Well, it seems that increasingly often you hear the phrase, “It is what it is.” I was taking the phrase to mean, “It’s not this and it’s not that; it’s something more subtle that I don’t have a name for, and I’m ok with that.” This actively demonstrates that you're ok with things not going your way, and this can lead to better self-development. By letting things hang in an uncategorized state in their mind they may slowly come to a richer, more nuanced understanding of it, which may lead to a new insight or invention.
Although there are benefits to It Is What It Is, the phrase comes with downfalls. For example, when you do have the power to change something going wrong, and you use the phrase it may come more across as giving up. Another way of saying this would be if somebody needs your help, and you have the power to help them, although you decide not to because you think the outcome is inevitable. Even though there is this downfall it does not ruin the phrase. You just have to use it at the correct time. For instance, the correct time to use this phrase would be when something is out of your control, and you are struggling to cope with it. The phrase wasn't meant to give up, it's less meant to deal with it. This phrase oddly enough has helped me cope with things that are out of my control.
To sum up, everything that has been stated so far It Is What It Is is an expression used to characterize a frustrating or challenging situation that a person believes cannot be changed and must just be accepted. In saying this it demonstrates more regard for I won't let something out of my control affect me.

Answer: C

Why: It's true. A hyperbole is an exaggeration of something, and that's what answer  C is showing.

The author could not possibly have taste-tested all of the chefs in the world to verify dad's "best" status is this sentence considered a hyperbole. Hence, option C is correct.

What is hyperbole?

The deliberate use of exaggeration and overstatement for emphasis and impact is known as hyperbole in rhetoric and literature.

The hyperbole should be understood to be an exaggeration by everybody who hears or reads it. Common hyperboles like "I'm so hungry, I could eat a horse," "I've seen this movie a hundred times," and "That cost an arm and a leg" are certainly ones you've heard in regular conversations.

Extreme exaggeration is known as hyperbole. That shouldn't be interpreted literally. Hyperbole is a tool used by writers to convey ideas, accentuate emotions, or reveal information about a character.

Thus, option C is correct.

Does the author's voice, or unique use of language, make her argument more or less effective (challenges for space exploration)

Answers

Hello. Unfortunately, I was unable to access the article to which your question refers, which makes it impossible for me to give you an exact answer. However, I will try to help you as best I can.

An argument becomes more or less effective through the use of evidence and through the author's language, that is, an author needs to present an appropriate language to the audience he wants to reach with the article. For example, if the author wants to present the challenges of space exploration to a non-expert public in the field, he must present a simple, direct language without specific and professional terms so that the argument is efficient and understandable by the public.

In addition, he must show a lot of text evidence that justifies and proves everything he is arguing, so that the argument is strong, informative, correct and effective.

In this case, to answer this question, you must read the article, identify the audience the author wants to reach and if this language is efficient to reach that audience. Then, you should note if the author uses efficient evidence that can justify and prove the argument presented in the article.
